The question

Who is rich

Nearly two thousand years ago, Ben Zoma asked a question that still stops people mid-sentence: who is rich? His answer was the one who is happy with their portion. This show asks it again, of women who are making money, losing it, growing it and giving it away. Every guest answers it. So can you.

“Who is rich? The one who is happy with their portion.”

Ben Zoma, Pirkei Avos 4:1

It is one of the oldest questions about money and one of the least answered. The answer is not a number or a portfolio. It is a relationship with what you already have, which is why every guest gets to answer it herself instead of being told what it means.

Four pillars

The episodes follow money's whole life.

Making it

What do I charge?

Most women are never taught how to put a price on their own work, and the first invoice is where the fear lives. This pillar is about the money you make: charging for it, asking for more, and finding out what people will actually pay for.

Keeping it

Where did it all go?

Money arrives, and then it goes somewhere. Keeping it is the least glamorous pillar and the one that changes lives: knowing your own numbers, paying your tax without dread, protecting what you have, and not being the last person to understand your own accounts.

Growing it

What do I do with it now?

Once there is something to grow, the room changes and so does the vocabulary. This pillar is about investing, start-ups and the long view, including the confidence to ask a question in a room full of people who assume you already know.

Giving it

What is it for?

Eventually the question turns to purpose. Giving is where money becomes meaning: giving strategically, giving a tenth, giving quietly, and the strange arithmetic where letting go of money is what makes it feel like yours.
